CCTA has proven in their acts that they lack the common decency of Respect. If the y were a company that did respect its drivers, they would have drivers waiting at the door to be hired.
The fact that they do not care what goes on at work or at home, as long as the buses are moving and there's a body behind the wheel driving it, also shows what they think of the ridership. To treat its employees the way they do affects the ridership as well. With bad attitudes, the fatigue, mishaps and accidents, passed passengers waiting for the bus and so on, is something the Labor Management Committee has brought up at committee meetings. The Labor Management Committee is made up of 4 people from Management and 4 drivers. Among the company's proposals, they proposed to change the name to the Scheduling Committee. They don't want your driver to have ANY say in particular issues. "You're not here to run the company" is one of they're quotes to the drivers.
The LMC also brings up issues pertaining to the CCTA's memo's, that are handed out on a regular basis. One of those memo's included language that stated:
"Spot 4 on the Cherry Street Platform is only to be used for 'Drop & Go.' Under no circumstances are drivers allowed to park
in spot 4 'Out of Service' so they can use the facilities in Remote One". (Remote One is their little break room with a
bathroom and things for snacks and lunches).
"This is the third time we have addressed not parking in spot 4 since September 2013. Drivers who disregard this request will
be subject to progressive discipline."
The CCTA has put out other memo's before this one stating that nobody can stop at places on the way to Cherry St. and from Cherry St. They put memo's out about not deviating from their route to stop. (Going off their run). Now, with the latest memo on Spot 4, where are the drivers supposed to stop and use the facilities? It has been reported, that some drivers, following these rules, have actually "Not made it to the restroom." How is it, in this day and age, a company treats its employees like this AND gets away with it?
CCTA is NOT an employee friendly company, at least to its backbone, the drivers. There is a sign in their break room stating that the drivers are the company's "Ambassadors." Are Ambassadors at the United Nations or around the world, prevented from using their facilities?
CCTA's memos that include changes in wages, hours and working conditions need to be bargained over. The fact that CCTA wants every memo and/or change to the company Handbook to be Policy means the Union and its bargaining team has their rights to bargain taken away. Is this the beginning of Union Busting?
Dignity, Decency and RESPECT is what the Drivers are DEMANDING!
